Observations
so far:
- New
Yorkers can be quite friendly, especially if you ask them about their
dogs. We now know more about people we've met here than we've learned
about any of our neighbors in Dallas over the past ten years.
- New
Yorkers can be vicious when they're in a hurry. And grocery shopping
is a contact sport here. If you think I'm exaggerating, try going into
a Fairways on a Sunday evening and living to tell the tale.
- There
are a LOT of Starbucks here. And Kurt knows the location of every single
one on the Upper West Side.
- The
subways and buses are great for getting around, EXCEPT during rush hour.
During rush hour, a subway car is not considered crowded unless one
of your internal organs has pressed against your spine, causing temporary
numbness in your extremities.
- "Weinberger" and "Kleinmann" are considered Jewish names here, and people remark
on how different us "Texas Jews" look and talk. Since we aren't in fact
Jewish, it's made for some awkward moments. Oy!
- There
are beautiful cut flowers on almost every street corner, and they are
CHEAP! On the Upper West Side, the going rate is $8 per two dozen long
stem roses.
- We
started rehearsals last night. So far, we're happy with the director,
the cast, and the designers. Let's hope the honeymoon doesn't end before
Opening Night!
