DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL!
Harry Hunsacker Is Back!
Harry Hunsacker returns in a brand new production of The Frequency of Death!, another adventure in the well-known and much beloved series of "Living Black & White"™ shows designed and produced by Pegasus Theatre since 1986. Kurt Kleinmann is back as Harry Hunsacker in this production at the Eisemann Center in Richardson, with an outstanding cast directed by Robert Bartley and including Broadway and Off-Broadway star Susan Mansur (Steel Magnolias; The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas; Damn Yankees; and Smoke on the Mountain, among others).
Mr. Bartley is a New York director with strong North Texas roots who brings with him an impressive directing resume, including Broadway Backwards now in its 7th incarnation on Broadway. This premier fund-raiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids has starred over 100 performers including Betty Buckley, Whoopi Goldberg, Len Cariou, Neil-Patrick Harris, F. Murray Abraham, Clay Aiken, Alan Cumming and Florence Henderson. Other New York directing credits include: The Cuban and the Redhead (LA Festival, Village Theatre, Revision, York Theatre), Fiorelli (NYMF); and Hair (Peculiar-Works.) Mr. Bartley is also a talented actor who has himself acted on Broadway in shows such as Miss Saigon; Cats; West Side Story with Beyonce, Chita Rivera, Meryl Streep and Bette Midler; Off-Broadway in Clue; and in the film musical, The Producers.
Ms. Mansur is a veteran of Broadway and Off-Broadway. She got her start in the original production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas playing the lonely waitress Doatsey Mae. Ms. Mansur was in the revival of Damn Yankees with Jerry Lewis and toured with White Christmas for five years ending up back on Broadway. Over her years in New York, Ms. Mansur created many roles including Truvy in Steel Magnolias, Myrna Thorn in Ruthless, Icy Spoons in Night of the Hunter, Meemaw in Stand By Your Man and Pricilla Vanderhosen in Cy Coleman's Lovers, Lawyers and Lunatics (with Robert Bartley.) Her other favorites include Dolly in Hello, Dolly, Rev. Mother in Nunsense and Dotty in Noises Off. Since returning to her native state, Ms. Mansur has had the great pleasure to work in Dallas at WaterTower Theatre in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (along with Gordon Fox) and Valley of the Dolls for Uptown Players. Ms. Mansur can be seen in two recent Austin films, Five Time Champion and Abel's Field as well as the TV movie Marry Me on Lifetime and the motion picture Universal Soldier 4.
The cast also includes: Ben Bryant, Chad Cline, Christopher Curtis, local treasure Gordon Fox, Charissa Lee, Leslie Patrick, Caroline Perryman, Greg Phillips, Ben Schroth, and Kurt Kleinmann.
As with recent Black-and-White productions at the Eisemann Center, Opening Night for the show will be on New Year's Eve and will include an after-show party with the cast and crew featuring champagne, cake, and Black & White party favors (December 31, 2011.)
THE STORY: The Frequency of Death! takes place in the studios of radio station WKIL during a live broadcast of “The Mystery Challenge.” The program is hijacked by a mysterious voice—that of Dr. Big! A demented but brilliant scientist who’s crossed paths with Harry, Nigel, and Lt. Foster before, Dr. Big is bent on revenge—no matter the cost. He’s rigged the building to explode if anyone tries to come in or leave. The only hope our heroes have is to stop Dr. Big before the program signs off—permanently! With Harry on the scene, the murderer's chances of "getting away with it" just got a whole lot better. An affectionate parody of detective films on the 1930’s and 40’s, this new comedy murder-mystery will delight the whole family!
The Frequency of Death! opens at the Eisemann Center on December 31, 2011, and runs through January 22, 2012, with performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Eisemann Center Box Office at 972-744-4650.
NOTE: After completing the run at the Eisemann Center on January 22, 2012, Pegasus Theatre will move the show to the beautiful new MCL Grand Theatre in Lewisville for a limited one-week engagement, running from January 26 through January 29, 2012.
